Ingredients

- 1/4 oz active dry yeast
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup milk
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, and salt.
- Mix in the egg, melted butter, vanilla extract, and yeast mixture until a soft dough forms.
- Knead dough on a lightly floured surface for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–2 hours until doubled in size.
- Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness and cut into squares or rectangles.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry dough pieces in batches until golden brown on both sides, about 2–3 minutes per side.
- Drain on paper towels and dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.
