Description
Cajun Chicken Sloppy Joes with Creamy Cheese Sauce are spicy, savory, and indulgent. Ground chicken cooked with Cajun spices is topped with a rich, cheesy sauce and served on toasted brioche buns, perfect for a bold weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 lb ground chicken
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp Cajun seasoning (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- ½ cup low-sodium chicken broth
- ½ cup tomato sauce (canned)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp brown sugar (optional)
- Salt, to taste
- For Creamy Cheese Sauce: 2 tbsp unsalted butter, 2 tbsp all-purpose flour, 1 cup whole milk, 8 oz sharp cheddar or American cheese, ¼ tsp paprika, pinch of salt
- For Assembly: 4–6 brioche hamburger buns, split and toasted, softened butter, freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; sauté until translucent.
- Add ground chicken and cook until browned.
- Stir in Cajun seasoning, tomato paste, chicken broth, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and salt. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until slightly thickened.
- For the cheese sauce: melt butter in a small saucepan, whisk in flour for 1 min, gradually add milk, then add shredded cheese, paprika, and salt. Stir until smooth.
- Spread cheese sauce over the cooked chicken mixture and stir to combine.
- Toast brioche buns with butter. Spoon chicken mixture onto buns, top with black pepper, and serve warm.
Notes
- Adjust Cajun seasoning to your spice preference.
- Ground turkey or chicken thighs can be used instead of ground chicken.
- Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for 2–3 days.
