Description
This Chicken Sausage Broccoli Orzo is a cozy one-pot meal featuring tender orzo pasta, savory chicken sausage, fresh broccoli, and a sprinkle of Parmesan for a quick and hearty dinner.
Ingredients
- Pasta
2 cups orzo pasta - Proteins
1 pound chicken sausage, sliced - Vegetables
2 cups broccoli florets
3 cloves garlic, minced - Liquids
4 cups chicken broth
1 tablespoon olive oil - Seasonings
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Salt, to taste
Black pepper, to taste - Cheese & Garnish
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced chicken sausage and cook until browned, about 4–5 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- Add garlic to the same skillet and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Stir in orzo pasta and toast for 1 minute. Pour in chicken broth and Italian seasoning. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add broccoli florets during the last 3 minutes of cooking and season with salt and black pepper.
- Return cooked sausage to the skillet and toss everything together. Cook until the orzo is tender and the broth is mostly absorbed.
- Remove from heat, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley, and serve warm.
Notes
- Use low-sodium chicken broth to control salt levels.
- Add a squeeze of lemon juice before serving for extra brightness.
- Substitute turkey sausage or vegetarian sausage if desired.
