Description

This Chocolate Cobbler is an easy, decadent dessert with a rich chocolate batter topped with a fudgy cocoa sugar topping. Pour hot water over the batter to create a warm, gooey chocolate treat that’s perfect for sharing.

Ingredients

  • For the batter:
    • 1 cup all-purpose flour
    • 2 tsp baking powder
    • ¼ tsp salt
    • ¾ cup granulated sugar
    • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
    • ½ cup milk
    • ⅓ cup unsalted butter, melted
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • For the topping:
    • ¼ cup cocoa powder
    • ½ cup granulated sugar
    • ½ cup brown sugar
  • For the boiling water:
    • 1 ½ cups hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, granulated sugar, and cocoa powder for the batter.
  3. Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla until smooth. Pour batter into prepared dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and brown sugar for the topping.
  5. Sprinkle topping evenly over the batter in the dish.
  6. Carefully pour boiling water over the back of a spoon onto the batter and topping, do not stir.
  7. Bake for 35–40 minutes until edges are set and the center is slightly gooey.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm, optionally with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • Do not stir after adding boiling water—the magic happens as it bakes.
  • Best served warm to enjoy the gooey texture.
  • Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat before serving.
