Description
This Chocolate Cobbler is an easy, decadent dessert with a rich chocolate batter topped with a fudgy cocoa sugar topping. Pour hot water over the batter to create a warm, gooey chocolate treat that’s perfect for sharing.
Ingredients
- For the batter:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- ½ cup milk
- ⅓ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- For the topping:
- ¼ cup cocoa powder
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar
- For the boiling water:
- 1 ½ cups hot water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, granulated sugar, and cocoa powder for the batter.
- Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla until smooth. Pour batter into prepared dish.
- In a separate bowl, mix cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and brown sugar for the topping.
- Sprinkle topping evenly over the batter in the dish.
- Carefully pour boiling water over the back of a spoon onto the batter and topping, do not stir.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes until edges are set and the center is slightly gooey.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm, optionally with ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
- Do not stir after adding boiling water—the magic happens as it bakes.
- Best served warm to enjoy the gooey texture.
- Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat before serving.
