Description

This Country Fried Chicken is crispy, juicy, and seasoned to perfection, featuring a buttermilk marinade and a flavorful breading. Perfect for classic Southern comfort meals!

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
  • Buttermilk Marinade: 2 cups buttermilk (see notes for substitutions), 2 large eggs, whisked, 3 teaspoons salt
  • Breading: 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (plain or Italian), 2 1/2 teaspoons seasoned salt, 3/4 teaspoon paprika, 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper, 1 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine buttermilk, whisked eggs, and salt. Add chicken breasts and marinate for at least 2 hours or overnight in the refrigerator.
  2. In another bowl, mix flour, breadcrumbs, seasoned salt, paprika, cayenne, and black pepper for the breading.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat until hot.
  4. Remove chicken from marinade, allowing excess to drip off, and dredge thoroughly in the breading mixture.
  5. Carefully place chicken in the hot oil and fry for 6–8 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature 165°F / 74°C).
  6. Remove chicken and drain on a paper towel-lined plate. Serve hot.

Notes

  • You can substitute buttermilk with 2 cups milk + 2 tablespoons lemon juice or vinegar if needed.
  • For extra crispiness, double-dredge the chicken by dipping again in the egg mixture and breading.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes, gravy, or your favorite Southern sides.
