This Country Fried Chicken is crispy, juicy, and seasoned to perfection, featuring a buttermilk marinade and a flavorful breading. Perfect for classic Southern comfort meals!
Ingredients
- 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
- 1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
- Buttermilk Marinade: 2 cups buttermilk (see notes for substitutions), 2 large eggs, whisked, 3 teaspoons salt
- Breading: 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (plain or Italian), 2 1/2 teaspoons seasoned salt, 3/4 teaspoon paprika, 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper, 1 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine buttermilk, whisked eggs, and salt. Add chicken breasts and marinate for at least 2 hours or overnight in the refrigerator.
- In another bowl, mix flour, breadcrumbs, seasoned salt, paprika, cayenne, and black pepper for the breading.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat until hot.
- Remove chicken from marinade, allowing excess to drip off, and dredge thoroughly in the breading mixture.
- Carefully place chicken in the hot oil and fry for 6–8 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature 165°F / 74°C).
- Remove chicken and drain on a paper towel-lined plate. Serve hot.
Notes
- You can substitute buttermilk with 2 cups milk + 2 tablespoons lemon juice or vinegar if needed.
- For extra crispiness, double-dredge the chicken by dipping again in the egg mixture and breading.
- Serve with mashed potatoes, gravy, or your favorite Southern sides.
