This Hobo Casserole Ground Beef recipe is a hearty, comforting meal made with layers of seasoned ground beef, potatoes, and cheese. Perfect for a weeknight dinner or family gathering.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 4-5 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 1/2 cups [fill in ingredient]
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon [fill in spice]
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup beef broth or water
- 1/4 cup milk (optional, for creaminess)
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375ยฐF (190ยฐC).
- In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; sautรฉ until softened.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned. Season with salt, pepper, and your choice of spices.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish. Top with half of the cooked beef mixture and 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese.
- Repeat layers with remaining potatoes, beef, and cheese. Sprinkle paprika over the top. Pour beef broth (and milk if using) evenly over the casserole.
- Cover with foil and bake for 30-35 minutes, until potatoes are tender. Remove foil and bake an additional 10 minutes for a golden top.
- Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
Notes
- You can use shredded cheddar or mozzarella instead of Parmesan for a different flavor.
- Make it creamy by adding milk or cream between layers.
