Description

South Carolina Bird Dog Sandwiches combine crispy chicken tenders, tangy mustard-based BBQ sauce, creamy mayo, pickles, onions, and fresh toppings all tucked into a soft hoagie roll. A Southern classic with bold flavors in every bite!

Ingredients

  • 4 chicken tenders (grilled, fried, or baked)
  • 4 hoagie rolls or soft sandwich buns
  • 1/2 cup tangy South Carolina mustard-based BBQ sauce
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/4 cup chopped pickles (bread and butter or dill)
  • 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup shredded lettuce or coleslaw
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: Hot sauce for an extra kick

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, honey, and a pinch of salt and pepper to create a creamy spread.
  2. Warm or toast hoagie rolls as desired.
  3. Spread the mayo-mustard mixture on each roll.
  4. Place a chicken tender on each bun, then drizzle generously with the South Carolina mustard-based BBQ sauce.
  5. Top with pickles, sliced red onion, and shredded lettuce or coleslaw.
  6. Finish with an optional splash of hot sauce for extra heat.
  7. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Fried chicken tenders work best for extra crunch, but grilled or baked are great lighter options.
  • Swap hoagie rolls for sandwich buns, pretzel buns, or even wraps.
  • Pairs perfectly with fries, chips, or coleslaw on the side.
