Description
This Stuffed Italian Meatloaf is a hearty, flavorful twist on a classic comfort food. Filled with mozzarella and optional spinach, then topped with marinara and Parmesan, it’s perfect for family dinners.
Ingredients
Meatloaf:
- 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
- 1/2 lb ground Italian sausage
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup bread crumbs
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
- 2 tbsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tbsp parsley, chopped
- 1/2 cup milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
Filling:
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1 cup spinach, chopped (optional)
- 1/4 cup marinara sauce
Topping:
- 1/2 cup marinara sauce
- 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a loaf pan.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, Italian sausage, onion, garlic, bread crumbs, eggs, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, parsley, milk, salt, and pepper. Mix until combined.
- Press half the meat mixture into the loaf pan. Layer with mozzarella, spinach, and 1/4 cup marinara sauce. Top with remaining meat mixture and press to seal.
- Spread 1/2 cup marinara over the top and sprinkle with 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese.
- Bake for 55–65 minutes until meatloaf is cooked through and topping is golden.
- Remove from oven, let rest 10 minutes, then slice and serve.
Notes
- Spinach is optional but adds extra nutrients and flavor.
- Use a meat thermometer to ensure internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- Leftovers make great sandwiches or quick lunches.
