Description

Applebee’s Chicken Wonton Tacos are crispy, flavorful appetizers made with seasoned diced chicken, crunchy coleslaw, and a sweet and savory Asian-inspired sauce tucked into baked wonton shells. They are finished with sweet chili sauce, cilantro, and sesame seeds for a restaurant-style bite at home.

Ingredients

  • 2 chicken breasts, finely diced
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp minced fresh ginger
  • 1 bag coleslaw
  • 4 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 16 wonton wrappers
  • Sweet chili sauce, to serve
  • Chopped cilantro, to serve
  • Sesame seeds, to serve

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a muffin tin or spray it with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a bowl, combine the diced chicken with hoisin sauce, sesame oil, soy sauce, minced garlic, and fresh ginger. Toss until the chicken is evenly coated.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned chicken and cook for 6–8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is fully cooked and lightly browned.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the coleslaw, sliced green onions, sesame oil, rice vinegar, soy sauce, and honey. Toss well until the slaw is evenly coated.
  5. Press one wonton wrapper into each muffin cup, gently shaping it into a taco-like shell.
  6. Bake the wonton wrappers for 5–7 minutes, or until they begin to turn golden and crisp.
  7. Remove the shells from the oven and carefully fill each one with cooked chicken.
  8. Top each taco with the prepared coleslaw mixture.
  9. Return the filled wonton tacos to the oven for 2–3 minutes, just until warmed through and the wonton shells are crisp.
  10. Drizzle with sweet chili sauce and garnish with chopped cilantro and sesame seeds.
  11. Serve immediately while the wonton shells are crisp.

Notes

  • Finely dice the chicken so it cooks quickly and fits easily inside the wonton shells.
  • Watch the wonton wrappers closely while baking because they can brown quickly.
  • For the crispiest shells, avoid overfilling them with chicken or coleslaw.
  • The coleslaw can be prepared a few hours ahead and refrigerated until ready to use.
  • Add the sweet chili sauce just before serving for the best texture.
  • Garnish with fresh cilantro and sesame seeds for extra flavor and presentation.
  • These tacos are best served immediately, as the wonton shells will soften over time.
